If you receive a
letter, package or container suspected of being infected with
Anthrax or other biological agent, or if you receive a
communication (e-mail, phone, fax) saying there is a
Anthrax/biological agent present at your location, YOUR FIRST
ACTION SHOULD BE TO LIMIT THE EXPOSURE TO AS FEW PEOPLE AND AS
SMALL AN AREA AS POSSIBLE. This is accomplished by the
following: |
- The first person to possess and/or
recognize a sealed or opened suspicious envelope or package
should immediate place the envelope/package down and move to
another room/area.
- Others in the room should be alerted as to
the presence of the envelope and should be directed to leave
the room in a calm and orderly manner but they should not
leave the building.
- Do NOT touch or move the envelope or
package.
- Deny entry into the building or area.
- Call 9-1-1 immediately and inform the
operator of the situation.
- Persons possibly exposed to the contents of
the envelope should be isolated or should isolate themselves
in a room away from others. Create a list of those persons
possibly exposed.
- Anyone who touched the envelope/package or
any suspicious material should immediately wash their hands
with soap and water.
- Await the instructions of emergency
personnel.
