  • Information and Referral  364-2020/www.information.com  
    Information Rockland - NY Connects provides information about local health and human services to residents, regardless of income. Residents can call information Rockland Monday through Friday from 8AM to 5PM, or log onto their website 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to access up-to-date information on community, local, state, federal and municipal health and human service agencies. InfoRock continues to be the single point of entry for NY Connects, a program that provides consumers with information and assistance on long-term care services for seniors and adults and children with disabilities.
     
  • Adult Protective Services  364-2020  for referrals.
    Crisis intervention for adults in need of immediate protection without regard to financial status.

     
  • Child Protective Services  364-3512
    Investigates reports of child abuse and maltreatment. Staff is available 24 hours, 7 days a week. For reporting suspected abuse or neglect: Toll-free state hotline 800-342-3720; For mandated reporting Toll-free state hotline: 800-635-1522.
     
  • Child Support Enforcement Services (CSEU)  1-888-208-4485 (for general information).
    Establishes paternity; locates absent parents; obtains, collects and enforces child support payments to temporary assistance clients and private individuals regardless of income. CSEU is located at 2 New Hempstead Road  (Chase Bank Building), New City and is open from 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday. To schedule an appointment, please call 638-5917.
  • Children’s Services  364-3534
    Arranges adoptions and foster care for children placed through the court system or at the request of their families.
  • Childcare Subsidy Program   364-3797
    Authorizes childcare subsidies to Temporary Assistance families so they can participate in employment and employment activities, to working parents who have succeeded in leaving welfare, to working families with incomes below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level, to teenage parents in order to finish high school, and to families who need help to prevent a child's out-of-home placement.
     
  • Domestic Violence Services/Teen Age Dating Violence Program 634-3344
    Shelter and non-residential services to victims of domestic violence. The department contracts with the Rockland Family Shelter, Inc. to provide hotline services, counseling, advocacy, and community education as well as emergency shelter.
     
  • Employment Services, 364-3143 
    Assists public assistance and food stamp applicants and recipients to secure gainful employment through a variety of employment programs, approves vocational exemptions for school attendance, monitors clients in training programs, and monitors the attendance of alcohol and drug abusers in rehabilitation programs.

    Services without regard to income to avoid placement of children outside their homes due to family problems.

     
  • Food Stamps  364-3100
    Establishes eligibility for food stamps for low-income households.
      
  • Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)  364-3480
    Administers the energy program which helps county residents with limited incomes pay their utility or fuel bills.
     
  • Medicaid 364-3040
    Establishes Medicaid eligibility for families not on public assistance, authorizes issuance of Medicaid cards to SSI clients, determines Medicaid eligibility for individuals who require long-term institutional care.
       
  • NEXT STEPS Program 364-3724
    NEXT STEPS is a 6-month, 5 day a week, voluntary employment program that offers mothers with children 6 weeks to 2 years 11 months and with incomes at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level, an alternative to immediately going to work. On-site job readiness and skills training, quality child care, and parent education co-exist to help women secure unsubsidized employment and achieve job preservation while teaching them how to promote the healthy growth and development of their children.
     
  • Special Investigations Unit  364-3200
    Investigates all complaints regarding welfare abuse, audits cases in which a high probability of fraud exists, and attempts to recover overpayments to clients.

    Evaluates and processes applications for those who demonstrate need for financial assistance or one-time emergency aid.
