WHAT IS THE EMPLOYEE
ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP)?
EAP
is a benefit offered to you and your family members.
It is a voluntary
program designed to offer a highly professional,
confidential source of help for people who need
assistance with personal problems or concerns.
The Rockland County
Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is available to all
Rockland County employees and their families.
The Rockland County EAP
is jointly sponsored by labor and management. It
provides referrals, tailored for individual employee
needs, to community resources.
The program can benefit
employees by assessing their problems and referring
employees for assistance.
WHAT THE PROGRAM DOES?
The
Employees Assistance Program offers help at an early
stage for employees whose personal problems may
adversely affect work performance.
The
EAP provides confidential assessment and referral.
WHY THE EMPLOYEE
ASSISTANCE PROGRAM?
The Rockland County Employee
Assistance Program is a confidential assessment and
referral program that
provides services as requested by
employees.
The program is designed to provide
professional; assistance in dealing with a broad range
of problems, including, but not limited to:

abuse
of alcohol or other drugs |
|
emotional or behavioral disorders |
|
childcare and eldercare issues |
|
family and marital discord |
|
work-related problems |
|
a
relationship in which you are being harmed |
The program is not designed to provide treatment. Its
purpose is to provide early identification and
prevention as well as referral to appropriate
professional counseling in order to enhance the
treatment process.
Many problems can be successfully dealt with if
identified and treated early. Moreover, an employee’s
preoccupation with the problems of a family member can
disrupt work performance and attendance. Therefore,
this program is also available to immediate family
members.

SELF-REFERRAL
Any County Employee may contact EAP
directly by calling 364-2300.
Under the EAP program, County employees
and their families are encourages to make voluntary
use of resources that are provided.
It is hoped that voluntary
self-referral will come prior to the development of
work performance problems.
SUPERVISORY REFERRAL
When a work problem has already
developed, a supervisor may recommend or suggest EAP
to an employee.
The employee will be advised that the
problem must be resolved.
The supervisor will assist the employee
in improving work performance.
It is ultimately the employee’s
decision whether or not to contact EAP.
The EAP Coordinator will discuss the
problem with the employee on a CONFIDENTIAL basis,
assess the problem and refer the employee for further
help if indicated.
It is the employee’s responsibility to
accept recommended assistance.
AN employee’s job future with the
County WILL IN NO WAY BE JEOPARDIZED because he/she
has utilized the services of this program.
