Joseph Meyers was born on July 11, 1961 at Long Island Jewish Hospital in
Queens, New York, as one of a pair of identical twins to Claire and
Sanford Meyers. (His brother Alan is 11 minutes younger)
Joe was raised in Floral Park, Queens where he attended public school
through high school. In 1978 he graduated from Martin Van Buren High
School in Bellrose, Queens, and at the age of 17, became the youngest
citizen ever appointed to a New York City Planning Board, which oversees
land use issues and provides community input to New York City government.
In 1982, Joe graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the State University of
Binghamton with a bachelor’s degree in political science. While an
undergraduate, Joe served as a Political Science teaching assistant for a
course on the American Presidency and Public Opinion Polling and
taught an undergraduate mini-course on the Modern American Presidency
Joe graduated as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar with a Juris Doctor
degree from Columbia Law School in 1985. A practicing attorney since
1985, Joe concentrates his practice in real estate law. His practice is
national in scope and is based in Manhattan.

their three children: Sam, Laura, and Isabella; all of whom attend the
Ramapo Central Schools. The Meyers Family belongs to Temple Beth El in
Spring Valley where Carrie Meyers serves on the Board of Trustees.
Joe began his civic career in Airmont in 2001 when he helped form an ad
hoc neighborhood group to successfully lobby the Village of Airmont
Planning Board on a local issue.
In 2002, Joe was elected to the Airmont Village Board of Trustees and was
re-elected in 2004.
While on the Airmont Village Board, Joe utilized his legal experience to
address zoning, land use, and a wide variety of quality of life issues
affecting residents of Airmont and the Town of Ramapo. Joe is an active
supporter of Preserve Ramapo – a local, good government group seeking to
change land use and other policies of our Ramapo Town Government. While a
Trustee, Joe served on the Executive Board of The Ramapo Conference of
Village Trustees. In 2007 Airmont Mayor Dennis Kay appointed Joe Deputy
Mayor.
In 2007, Joe was elected to the Rockland County Legislature with over 68%
of the vote. Joe represents the 12th Legislative District,
which includes most of Airmont, a large portion of Suffern (including
downtown Suffern, Bon Aire and Stonegate), a portion of unincorporated
Ramapo and a portion of Chestnut Ridge.
