Educational Programs

The Rockland County Stop-DWI Office has two educational programs available to students and the general public.  Instructors are certified police officers who work as educational consultants for the STOP-DWI Office. The classroom presentation is an overview of the DWI Laws detailing the identification and processing of a DWI arrest. Students are taught the basics of probable/reasonable cause and how it relates to a drunk driving arrest.  Drunk driving simulator goggles are used to show different levels of impairment along with video presentations to enhance program objectives.

The second presentation is an interactive mock DWI trial, which gives an overview of an actual DWI arrest, trial and conviction. Participants are selected from the audience and act in the role of judge, police officer, driver, defense counsel and prosecutor with the remainder of the audience acting as the jury.  The trial unfolds in front of the participants and the defendant’s guilt or innocence is decided by the audience.
