County Office for the Aging Receives Federal Grant for Long-Term Care Insurance, Education and Outreach Program

Pomona, NY- The Rockland County Office for the Aging has received a $50,000 federal grant to launch a Long-Term Care Insurance, Education and Outreach Program. The program will inform the public about the various long-term care plans available, including the New York State Partnership for Long-Term Care.

The New York State Partnership was created to help New Yorkers finance long-term care without impoverishing themselves or signing over their life’s savings to qualify for Medicaid. It is a unique program in that it combines long-term care insurance and Medicaid Extended Coverage to help New Yorkers prepare financially for the possibility of needing nursing home care and/or home care services. The program allows New Yorkers to protect their assets while remaining eligible for Medicaid Extended Coverage, if their long-term care needs exceed the period covered by their private insurance company.

There are also many private long-term care insurance policies available which cover many types of long-term care services and different benefits. Long-term care insurance policies are not standardized like Medicare supplement insurance. Companies sell policies that combine benefits and coverage in different ways, depending on cost of the policy.
